In part one of the novel, antiques dealer Laine Tavish receives a cryptic warning from her uncle before his death. Soon afterward, Laine's home is ransacked and a stranger, Max, offers to help find out who is chasing her and the treasure they are seeking. In the second part of the novel, it is the year 2059 and Detective Eve Dallas picks up on the unsolved mystery of the past and attempts to find the treasure that Max and Laine were unable to discover.
